During technology class, students in grades 2-5 are learning how to type using the two-hand touch-typing method. Grades 2 and 3 are using Dance Mat Typing and grades 4 and 5 are using typing.com. Grades 4 and 5 have a unique login account, which they know, so their progress is saved online. We use free online programs that are accessible from Portaportal, category Keyboarding. The goal is to eliminate the hunt-and-peck method as students memorize the location of the keys on the QWERTY keyboard and develop muscle memory. Two hands rest on home row as they line up with the letter "J". Correct posture is stressed as no slouching allowed.
Grade K/1 are introduced to the QWERTY keyboard. They are learning the difference between the left and right sides of the keyboard using both their left and right hands.
